Missouri Construction Accident Leaves One Worker Injured

January 15, 2013
A Missouri man was left seriously injured following a construction accident that occurred at the new Mercy Hospital under construction in Joplin. According to an article from The Joplin Globe, the incident occurred on January 3 at around 4:30 p.m. at the building found near Interstate 44 and Joseph Hearnes Boulevard.

Officials say the victim was working inside the structure when he suffered a Slip and Fall Accident that sent him plummeting roughly 30 feet down to another floor, despite being said to have been wearing a safety harness as a precaution. The impact left the worker with injuries that required rescue crews to transport him to a local trauma center for treatment. He was last listed in fair condition and was expected to be hospitalized for several days.

The accident shows injuries can still occur even when efforts are being made towards safety. By law, employers are required to provide workers with a safe and healthy location in which to do their job. A majority of employers carry workers’ compensation insurance as part of achieving this; however, insurance adjustors handling cases may not have an injured employee’s best interest at heart.
