MoDOT Hopes to Reduce Wrong-Way St. Louis Car Accident Numbers With New Signs

Any collision between motor vehicles can have devastating results, but wrong-way collisions are especially notorious for the damage they can cause—especially here in Missouri. Data from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) shows that over the last eight years, there have been at least 25 such crashes along I-44 in the St. Louis region alone.
In order to help reduce the chances of a St. Louis car accident being caused by a wrong-way driver in the future, MoDOT will be installing new signage in areas that have proven to have significant risks of such crashes occurring. The new signs will not only be able to detect wrong-way drivers, but they will attempt to alert the driver of their mistake by flashing lights in their direction while also contacting law enforcement about the incident.
According to an article from KSDK 5 News, the signs will be installed at eight of I-44’s ramps surrounding the city, including those in the eastbound lanes to Lafayette, Hampton, and Jefferson. The westbound lanes leading to Arsenal, Grand, Vandeventer, Hampton, and Jefferson will also be equipped with the new signage.
At Cofman Townsley Injury Lawyers, our St. Louis personal injury attorneys are aware of the results a wrong-way accident can have. That’s why we are hopeful the new signs being installed will be effective in warning drivers of their mistake when entering the roadway in the wrong direction.
