Report Of Nursing Home Abuse In St. John, Missouri

June 12, 2012
Nearly 6 million claims of elderly abuse or neglect were reported in 2010, and as the population of individuals over the age of 65 continues to increase, experts believe the number of abuse cases will do the same.
KMOV 4 News, in St. John, Missouri, reported one recent case of abuse last week after an 82-year-old woman was hospitalized with what appeared to be bruises from beatings. Police say they were called to St. John’s Place Nursing Home on June 2 after the victim’s daughter reportedly found the bruises on the woman’s abdomen and limbs. The victim spent the next two days in a local hospital having her injuries treated.
Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are currently interviewing all staff at the nursing home that may have come into contact with the victim.
Statistics show that more than 90 percent of nursing homes in the U.S. lack adequate staff to care for the number of patients living in the facility, and more than one-third of all nursing homes have been in violation of abuse and neglect laws in the past.
That’s why the St. Louis Personal Injury Lawyers with Cofman Townsley Injury Lawyers say the best way to prevent your loved one from becoming a victim of nursing home abuse is to be involved and ask plenty of questions about their care. Also, call the police immediately if you suspect neglect or abuse.
