Before You Get the Call

After your car accident, there’s a good chance you’re going to receive a call. The person on the other line may be friendly, knowledgeable, and seemingly on your side. They may tell you how sorry they are for your accident and that they want to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible. Then they may give you a dollar amount they’re willing to pay for your injuries. They’ll advise you to take the money and walk away. Just sign on the dotted line and it’s yours.
That person works for the insurance company, and despite how nice they may seem, they may not be on your side. Their job is to pay you as little as possible for your injury claim, which is why, if you asked them whether or not you should talk to a lawyer, they’d probably say absolutely not. The truth is they don’t want you calling a lawyer, because they know a lawyer may be able to get you more money than they’re offering.
If you were playing basketball, and a member of the other team told you not to put your best player in the game, do you think that opposing team member would be looking out for your best interests? It’s the same in an injury claim. The insurance company will do everything in their power to get you to take their initial offer, because when you do, they win.
Don’t do it. If you get that call, tell them they need to speak with your lawyer. You’ll be glad you did.
