$3 million awarded in Missouri nursing home abuse and neglect suit

A man was ordered to pay more than $3 million to a patient’s estate in a Missouri nursing home neglect and abuse lawsuit, according to News Tribune. The owner-operator of two nursing home facilities was found liable in the death of a patient in 2004.
The Missouri nursing home neglect lawsuit alleges that the nursing staff at the facility were negligent, failing to care properly for the patient. The nursing home neglect victim developed bedsores and had to have above-knee amputations on both legs after becoming infected with gangrene.
The patient’s estate was awarded $500,000 in compensatory damages and the owner is to pay $2.5 million in punitive damages for in the Missouri nursing home neglect and abuse lawsuit.
